Nextep FAQ

Everything to know about our new POS service provider, Nextep, and what it means for you

What is Nextep?

Nextep is a point-of-sale technology company offering integrated solutions for food service — including kiosks, online ordering, POS terminals, and badge pay. All food outlets across campus (iCafe, Deli, Starbucks, and Peet’s) will be transitioning to Nextep. Scroll down to learn about changes to in-person ordering, badge pay, and online ordering.

In-Person Ordering: Cashiers & Kiosks

What forms of payment will be accepted?

You can continue to use credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and badge pay at both kiosks and with cashiers in iCafé, Deli, Starbucks, and Peet’s.
Please note: Illumina food outlets will remain cashless operations.

What’s changing during the in-person checkout process?

All outlets are receiving brand-new kiosks! At the Deli, Starbucks, and Peet’s, you’ll now be able to place your order directly at a kiosk, rather than waiting in line for a cashier.*Try the new, streamlined self-checkout kiosks at iCafé for a faster, more convenient experience!

Can I still check out with my favorite cashiers?

Yes! You can still check out with a cashier — they’ll be using new, upgraded equipment too.

BADGE PAY

What is changing with badge pay?

We’re upgrading to a new system that makes badge pay more reliable, faster, and easier to manage. You will continue to scan your badge at checkout to make a payment. An email to reset your account will be sent out on Monday October 20th.

I currently use my badge for payment. Do I need to do anything to keep using my badge?

Yes. All badge pay users will need to log in to their new Nextep account and either opt in to payroll deduct or add a credit card to load funds for a declining balance. Accounts have already been created for employees with active Quickcharge badge pay accounts. Links to reset you accounts will be sent out on Monday October, 20th.

Do I need a new badge?

No. Your new account will be linked to your existing badge.

How do I check my balance or transaction history?

Starting Monday, October 20th, you can log-in to your Nextep account at any time to view your balance and past transactions.

I’m Enrolled In Declining Balance

What happens to the funds I’ve loaded in Quickcharge but haven’t used?

We encourage you to turn off auto-funding for low balance thresholds and use up your remaining Quickcharge funds. Any unused funds will transfer to your new Nextep account. Please allow 3–5 business days for transfers to appear.

Do I need to add a credit card to my Nextep account to load additional funds?

Yes. All declining balance users will need to add a credit card to their digital wallet to load funds. You can sign up for auto-funding which allows you to add funds to your account automatically when it falls below your designated auto-funding threshold. Your saved credit card will be used to perform the transaction. You can add, remove, or change credit cards at any time.

I’m enrolled in payroll deduct

Do I need to opt-in to payroll deduction again?

Yes! Even if you were previously enrolled in payroll deduct with Quickcharge, you will need to opt-in again with Nextep. Starting Monday, October 20th, you can go to the website and click the wallet icon, and click the button that says ‘opt-in to payroll deduction’ from there, a pop-up will display and you will click ‘yes’ to agree to the terms.

How will purchases show up on my paycheck?

Purchases will continue to appear as payroll deductions labeled [“Meal Card,” “Badge Pay,” etc.].

What happens if I leave the company?

Any outstanding balance will be deducted from your final paycheck, and unused funds (if applicable) will be refunded.

ONLINE ORDERING

I like to place my orders online. How do I do that with Nextep?

Is there an app?

Yes. A new app is currently in development and will launch soon.

⚠️ Please note: The Quickcharge online and mobile ordering platform will no longer be available after 3 PM on Friday, October 17th .

I have additional questions. Who can I contact?
